Practicing the Presence of God

In Matthew 6:6, Jesus teaches us to "pray to our Father in secret" and to "seek [His] kingdom and His righteousness" (Matthew 6:33). This is not just about getting our prayers answered, but about cultivating a deeper relationship with God. As we practice the presence of God, we become more aware of His guidance, comfort, and peace in our daily lives.

Scripture Foundation

In Psalm 16:8, we read that "I have set the Lord always before me." This psalmist's declaration reveals the secret to living with God's presence: setting Him before us. We don't need to chase after Him; we simply need to invite Him into our daily routines and conversations.

In 1 Corinthians 4:5, Paul writes, "What do you have that the world has not? So then, since you are boasting of the things you do not have—since you are making yourselves appear rich in the sight of God because of the many who are standing the test—because of my boasting about you—you also should boast. For you suffer that you may enter into the kingdom of God." This verse reminds us that our weakness is not a barrier to experiencing God's presence, but rather an opportunity for Him to work mightily in our lives.

Colossians 3:3 reminds us that our lives should be hidden with Christ in God. This is not about trying to hide our flaws, but about acknowledging that our true identity is rooted in Christ, and that His presence is what gives us life and purpose.

Main Content

Practicing the presence of God is not about achieving a feeling or experiencing a specific emotional high. It's about cultivating a deep awareness of His presence in our daily lives. This can be as simple as setting a reminder on your phone to pray throughout the day or taking a few moments each morning to acknowledge God's presence.

As we practice the presence of God, we become more aware of His guidance, comfort, and peace in our daily lives. We may not always feel His presence, but we can trust that He is always with us. And when we do feel His presence, we can respond with gratitude and surrender.
