Practicing Presence in the Storm
Scripture Foundation
Mark 4:35-41 tells the story of Jesus' disciples, who were caught in a fierce storm on the sea. Despite their fear, Jesus was asleep in the stern, but when they woke him, he calmed the storm with a simple command. This passage reminds us that God is always present, even in the midst of chaos.
Psalm 107:29 says, "He calmed the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed." This psalm speaks to God's ability to bring peace in the midst of turmoil.
In Isaiah 43:2, God says, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be scorched, and the flames shall not burn you." This promise reminds us that God is our rock, our shelter, and our guide in times of trouble.
John 16:33 reminds us that "in this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." This verse gives us hope that we don't have to face our struggles alone, and that God has already overcome the world.
