Digital Discernment: Guarding Your Mind and Body
Scripture Reading and Analysis
"Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should one then take this member, the one that is on earth, and make it a prostitute's member to present it to another?" (1 Corinthians 6:15, NIV)
"And do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:2, NIV)
"Test and approve what is good, and acceptable and perfect, whether it is this or that. For it is God's will that you should live a life worthy of the Lord your God, who made you in his own image." (Ephesians 5:10-11, NIV)
"Keep your heart from straying from my commands and do not let them depart from your eyes. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart." (Proverbs 4:23, NIV)
Main Teaching
As believers, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:20). This means we have a responsibility to care for and guard our physical bodies, as well as our minds and hearts. In today's digital age, this can be especially challenging.
The Bible teaches us to renew our minds by transforming them with the Holy Spirit (Romans 12:2). This means we need to be intentional about the thoughts we allow into our minds and the media we consume. We must be willing to test and approve what is good, pleasing to the Lord, and worthy of praise (Ephesians 5:10-11).
In Proverbs 4:23, we are reminded to keep our hearts from straying from God's commands. This includes being mindful of our online presence and interactions. We must be intentional about guarding our minds and bodies in the digital age.
