Sabbath Sanctuary

In this busy world, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, forgetting the importance of rest and rejuvenation. But God designed us for rest, and the Sabbath is a gift from Him. Let's explore what it means to observe the Sabbath as a day of delight.

Scripture Foundation

In Exodus 31:12-17, God commands Moses to instruct the Israelites to observe the Sabbath, saying, "For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred rest for the Lord your God." The Sabbath is a gift from God, a reminder of His love and provision.

In Hebrews 4:9-11, we're reminded that "there remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered My rest has also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest." The Sabbath is a time to cease from our works and enter into God's rest.

In Genesis 2:2-3, we see that God rested on the seventh day after creating the world. This sets the precedent for us to follow His example and observe the Sabbath as a day of rest and delight. Isaiah 58:13 reminds us that "if you keep your feet on Sabbath and keep your hands from doing your own pleasure on it, and if you call the Sabbath a delight and the holy convocation of the Lord honor, if you honor it by not doing your own ways, seeking rather the good of the Lord, then He will give you as your reward delight in His appointed festivals." The Sabbath is a time to delight in God's presence and provision.
