Practicing the Presence of Peace

In the midst of chaos, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious. But as followers of Christ, we have the promise of God's presence with us always. In this 30-minute growth track, we'll explore three key passages that promise God's presence in times of turmoil, and discover practical ways to cultivate peace in the midst of chaos.

Scripture Foundation

Matthew 14:27 says, "Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the crowds away." Isaiah 26:3 declares, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Luke 12:22-23 exhorts us, "Then Jesus said to his disciples: 'Therefore I am telling you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? See how the flowers grow in the field and how they grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.'" These passages remind us that God is always present with us, and that His peace is available to us in every situation.

Main Content

When we're feeling anxious or overwhelmed, it's easy to forget that God is with us. But when we remember His presence, we can experience a sense of peace that transcends our circumstances. To cultivate this sense of peace, try these three practices:

  • Take a few minutes each day to reflect on the promises of God's presence in your life. Write down three specific ways He has been with you in the past.
  • Practice deep breathing exercises to calm your mind and body. Take slow, deliberate breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth, focusing on the sensation of the breath.
  • Take a few moments each day to pray and petition God for your needs. Ask Him to fill you with His peace and presence.
