Practicing the Presence of God
Scripture Foundation
Matthew 18:20 says, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." (NIV) This verse reminds us that God is always present with us, even when we're surrounded by others. Psalm 139:7-12 describes God's intimate knowledge and presence in our lives, saying, "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?" (NIV) 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and Colossians 3:3 encourages us to put on Christ, just as we would put on a new garment.
Main Content
So, how can we practice the presence of God in our daily lives? Here are three simple steps:
- Step 1: Take a few minutes each day to sit quietly, focusing on your breath and your surroundings. As you sit, ask God to meet you there, to be present with you.
- Step 2: Reflect on your day, acknowledging both the joys and struggles. Ask God to be present with you in each moment, and to guide you through the ups and downs.
- Step 3: Practice surrendering your thoughts, emotions, and worries to God. Remember that you are not your own temple; you are a temple of the Holy Spirit.
