Practicing the Presence of God
In this exercise, we'll explore the concept of 'in Christ' and how it enables us to experience God's presence in our daily lives. We'll also discover practical ways to cultivate intimacy with God through self-reflection and prayer, and learn to apply the principle of 'loving your neighbor as yourself' to build stronger relationships with others.
Scripture Foundation
Matthew 18:20 says, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." This verse reminds us that God is present whenever we gather together, whether in person or in spirit. Colossians 3:2-3 tells us to set our minds on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. And Luke 17:3-4 reminds us to humble ourselves before the Lord and ask for forgiveness, just as Jesus taught. Psalm 139:7-12 reveals God's constant presence and knowledge in our lives, saying, "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I rise up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there."Main Content
When we acknowledge that we are 'in Christ', we acknowledge that we are connected to God's presence and power. This understanding gives us the confidence to live a life of intimacy with God, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. To cultivate this intimacy, try setting aside time each day for self-reflection and prayer. Ask yourself questions like "What am I grateful for today?" or "What are my hopes and fears?" and listen for God's response. You can also try journaling or meditating on Scripture passages that bring you comfort and peace. As you practice the presence of God, remember that this doesn't mean you'll always feel His presence. But it means you trust that He is always present, even when you don't feel it. This trust allows you to live a life of obedience and faith, even in the midst of uncertainty. In applying the principle of 'loving your neighbor as yourself', try to treat others with the same kindness and compassion you would want for yourself. Practice active listening and empathy, and look for opportunities to serve others selflessly.Learning Objectives
