Practicing the Presence of God
Scripture Foundation
Psalm 139:7-12 says, "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to the heavens, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there. Even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, 'Let only darkness cover me, even the light, not be light,' yet even the night is not dark to you. The darkness and light are both alike to you." (ESV)
Matthew 18:20 reminds us, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I also among them." (ESV)
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 states, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." (ESV)
Hebrews 13:5 says, "Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have. For he has said, 'At my right hand I will prosper you; I will keep your going out and your coming in.'" (ESV)
Main Content
Practicing the presence of God is not just about intellectual understanding; it's about experiencing His nearness and intimacy in our daily lives. It's about recognizing that we are never alone and that God is always with us.
As we reflect on Psalm 139:7-12, we see that God is omnipresent – He is everywhere and nowhere. He is in every moment, every place, and every situation. This realization can be both comforting and overwhelming. It's comforting because it means we are never without His presence; it's overwhelming because it means we must surrender our lives to Him.
In Matthew 18:20, Jesus reminds us that His presence is not limited to physical gatherings or specific locations. He is among us wherever two or three are gathered in His name. This means that even in our quiet moments of solitude, we can experience His presence.
As we consider 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, we are reminded that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. This is not just a metaphor; it's a reality. The Holy Spirit dwells within us, guiding us and empowering us. This understanding should lead us to live lives that glorify God in our bodies.
In Hebrews 13:5, we see that contentment and trust in God's provision are essential for a life pleasing to Him. When we recognize that He is our provider and guide, we can rest in His presence and trust His plans.
