Practicing the Presence of God
Scripture Foundation
Matthew 18:20 says, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." Psalm 139:7-12 describes God's intimate knowledge of us, even before we take a breath. And 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Colossians 3:3 encourages us to put on the new self, transformed by the Spirit.
Main Content
Practicing the presence of God is not just about feeling a warm fuzzy feeling or having a mystical experience. It's about recognizing that God is always with you, even in the midst of chaos. Here are three ways to cultivate a deeper sense of God's presence:
- 1. Mindfulness and reflection: Take a few minutes each day to sit quietly, focusing on your breath. Reflect on your day, acknowledging the big and small ways God has been present. Ask yourself, "Where has God been with me today?" or "How has God spoken to me today?" Write down your thoughts and insights.
- 2. Intentional habits: Set aside time each day to read Scripture, journal, or pray. Make these habits a non-negotiable part of your daily routine, just like brushing your teeth or taking a shower. This helps you stay connected to God's presence.
- 3. Sensing His presence: Pay attention to the small ways God shows up in your daily life. Maybe it's a beautiful sunset, a kind word from a friend, or a gentle breeze on a hot day. Acknowledge these moments as evidence of God's presence and respond with gratitude.
