Practicing Presence

In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, forgetting to treasure what truly matters. Join us as we explore the concept of "treasuring up" treasures and learn how to prioritize what's eternal.

Scripture Foundation

Matthew 6:30 - "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Colossians 3:2-3 - "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Main Content

Have you ever stopped to think about what you're truly treasuring? As we navigate life's challenges, it's easy to get caught up in earthly treasures like wealth, status, or accomplishments. But Jesus reminds us to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:30). When we prioritize what's eternal, we'll find that all these earthly things fall into place.

But how do we do this? We must set our minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2-3). This means letting go of our attachment to the things that can't last and focusing on the eternal treasures of God's love, forgiveness, and presence. As we renew our minds through the Spirit (Romans 12:2), we'll find ourselves transformed and more aligned with God's will.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify earthly treasures that distract you from seeking God's kingdom.
  • Practice setting your mind on things above by taking time each day to reflect on God's presence and love.
  • Commit to renewing your mind through the Spirit by meditating on Scripture and seeking guidance from God's Word.

Application Steps

  • Take 5 minutes each day to journal about earthly treasures that distract you from seeking God's kingdom.
  • Set a reminder to take a few deep breaths and focus on God's presence throughout your day.

Reflection Questions

What are some earthly treasures that distract you from seeking God's kingdom? How can you prioritize what's eternal today?
