Practicing Presence
Scripture Foundation
Matthew 6:25-34 reminds us, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life-span?" (NIV)
Colossians 3:2-3 encourages us, "Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." (NIV)
Ephesians 5:15-20 instructs us, "Be very careful then how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is." (NIV)
Psalms 139:13-14 reminds us of God's intimate knowledge and presence in our lives, "For you formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." (NIV)
Main Content
As we navigate our daily lives, it's easy to get caught up in worries and anxieties. We worry about what others think of us, about our health, about our relationships, and about our future. But Jesus teaches us that worrying is not a productive use of our time. Instead, we should focus on the present moment and trust that God is taking care of us.
Take a few moments to reflect on your own worries and anxieties. What are the things that consume your thoughts and cause you stress? Take a deep breath and imagine God's presence with you. Ask Him to take those worries from you and replace them with His peace and wisdom.
