Practicing Presence in the Everyday
As missionaries, we often find ourselves juggling multiple tasks, responsibilities, and emotions. In the midst of chaos, it's easy to get caught up in anxiety and worry. But what if we could learn to cultivate a mindset of presence in our daily lives?
Scripture Foundation
In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus teaches us that anxiety is a natural response to our circumstances, but He encourages us to trust in God's provision. He says, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?" (Matthew 6:25). Instead of worrying about the unknown, we can choose to trust in God's sovereignty and provision. In Colossians 3:2-3, Paul exhorts us to "set our minds on things above, not on earthly things." He reminds us that as those who have been raised with Christ, we have a new perspective – one that looks to the future and trusts in God's goodness. Hebrews 13:5 says, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have." This verse reminds us that contentment is not found in our circumstances, but in our relationship with God. 1 Corinthians 4:2 encourages us to "to be faithful" – to be reliable and trustworthy – in our daily lives. When we trust in God's provision, we become people who can be counted on, even in the midst of uncertainty.Main Content
Practicing presence in our daily lives means choosing to focus on the present moment, rather than getting caught up in worries about the future or regrets about the past. It means being aware of our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without judgment. To cultivate a mindset of presence, try the following exercises: * Take a few deep breaths and focus on the sensation of the air moving in and out of your lungs. * Notice the sights and sounds around you without labeling them as good or bad. * Allow yourself to feel your emotions without judgment or resistance.Learning Objectives
