Practicing Holy Ground

As we journey through life, we often find ourselves standing on holy ground – a place where the presence of God is palpable. In this exercise, we'll explore the significance of holy ground, and how we can cultivate reverence for God's presence in our daily lives.

Scripture Foundation

Exodus 3:5: "Then Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. God said, 'I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt, and I have come down to rescue them. Now come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.'" (NIV)

Matthew 5:8: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." (NIV)

Hebrews 10:19-22: "Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have boldness to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by this new and living way opened for us through the curtain, since Jesus is our High Priest forever, let us approach God with a true heart full of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water." (NIV)

1 Corinthians 3:16-17: "Don't you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that the Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person. For God’s temple is holy, and you together are that temple." (NIV)

Main Content

In Exodus 3:5, we see Moses' reaction to encountering God's presence. He hides his face, afraid to look at God's glory. This reaction is not unique to Moses; many of us may feel the same way when we encounter God's majesty. However, God's response is not to punish or reject Moses but to reveal His purpose and commission him for a greater mission.

In Matthew 5:8, Jesus teaches that blessed are those who are pure in heart, for they will see God. This verse is not just a promise of a future reward but a present reality. When we cultivate a pure heart through repentance and surrender, we can experience the presence of God in our daily lives.

Hebrews 10:19-22 reminds us that as believers, we have boldness to enter the Most Holy Place through the blood of Jesus. This is not just a metaphorical entrance but a literal reality. As we come before God with a true heart full of faith, He promises to purify our hearts and cleanse our consciences.

Finally, in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, Paul emphasizes that believers are God's temple and that the Spirit dwells within us. This understanding should lead us to reverence for God's presence within us and to guard against anything that would profane His temple.
