Opening Reflection

As a single parent, your days can feel overwhelming, and your heart can feel cluttered with worries and concerns. But today, let's take a moment to unclutter our hearts' inboxes and focus on the goodness of God's grace.

Scripture Focus

"Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil. For they mouth speaks from what fills their heart." - Matthew 12:34-35 (NRSV)

Main Message

As we navigate the challenges of single parenthood, it's easy to feel like our hearts are overflowing with worries and fears. But Jesus reminds us that out of the abundance of our hearts, our mouths speak. In other words, what fills our hearts determines what comes out of our mouths. And if our hearts are filled with worry and fear, it's likely that's what we'll speak. But what if we could unclutter our hearts' inboxes and focus on the goodness of God's grace? What if we could speak words of hope and encouragement instead of worry and fear? As we meditate on God's Word, we can exchange our worries for His peace and fill our hearts with His goodness. In Luke 6:45, Jesus teaches us that a good person produces good treasure from a good heart. So, let's ask God to fill our hearts with His goodness and kindness. Let's ask Him to help us produce good treasure from our hearts, rather than evil. In Psalm 119:133, we read that we can trust in the Lord and keep His commands. So, let's ask God to help us keep His commands and trust in Him, rather than our own abilities. And in Hebrews 1:13, we're reminded that God is a consuming fire, refining us and purifying us. So, let's ask Him to refine and purify our hearts, making them a sweet aroma to Him.
