Embracing Imperfect Boundaries
When we try to control everything, we end up controlling nothing.
Scripture Focus
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." - Matthew 6:24
Main Message
In this world, we often struggle to set healthy boundaries. We try to control every aspect of our lives, from our relationships to our schedules to our possessions. But Jesus teaches us that this approach is unsustainable. When we try to serve two masters, we end up serving neither. We become like a ship without an anchor, tossed about by every wave of circumstance.
But when we choose to follow Jesus, we learn that true freedom comes from embracing imperfect boundaries. It's okay to say no to things that distract us from our relationship with God. It's okay to prioritize our own needs and well-being. By setting healthy boundaries, we create space for intimacy with God and for meaningful relationships with others.
As Paul writes in Ephesians 6:10-12, "Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand firm against all the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." We need to prioritize our relationship with God and let Him be our anchor in the storm.
Colossians 2:5 reminds us that "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." When we choose to follow Jesus, we are crucified with Him and He becomes our life. We no longer have to try to control everything because He is our rock, our shelter, and our guide.
Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life." When we prioritize our relationship with God, we are keeping our heart with all diligence. We are allowing Him to flow through us, guiding us and directing us in every situation.
So let's choose to set healthy boundaries today. Let's choose to prioritize our relationship with God and trust Him to guide us through every storm. Let's learn to say no to things that distract us from our purpose and yes to things that bring us closer to Him.
