Embracing Fragile Foundations

As single parents, we often feel like our foundations are shaky, like the sand that shifts beneath our feet. But the truth is, our God is the Rock upon which we can build our lives.

Scripture Focus

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” - Matthew 7:24-25 (NIV)

Main Message

In this passage, Jesus teaches us that our foundation is crucial. We can build our lives on shifting sands of human wisdom, or we can build on the solid rock of God's Word. As single parents, we may feel like our foundations are fragile, but God is the One who can give us a solid foundation. He is the Rock upon which we can build our lives. Psalm 40:2 says, "He lifted me out of the miry bog, out of the slimy clay; and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps firm." Isaiah 28:16 reminds us, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, elect, precious, and he who believes in it shall not be disturbed." These verses remind us that our God is the Rock who can lift us out of the mire and set our feet on solid ground. In 1 Corinthians 3:1-3, Paul writes about the building process of our lives. He says, "Brothers and sisters, think of it this way: Since God chose you as good partners in this ministry in Christ Jesus, you must join me in accepting a share of the suffering it brings. You have the same attitudes you had when you first believed. You suffered and were treated harshly by all sorts of trials. You see that kind of patience as proof yourselves are genuine and that you are working towards a glorious goal – the rich reward of being kept by God safely for the final judgment." He reminds us that our lives are built on a foundation of Christ, and that foundation is unshakeable. So, as single parents, let us remember that our God is the Rock upon which we can build our lives. Let us build on the solid foundation of His Word, and trust that He will lift us out of the mire and set our feet on solid ground.
