Faithful Focus: Cultivating Inner Strength
Scripture Reading and Analysis
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." - Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
In this passage, Jesus teaches us that our primary focus should be on seeking God's kingdom and His righteousness. This is not just a suggestion, but a command. When we prioritize God's kingdom, everything else will fall into place.
Paul echoes this same sentiment in Colossians 3:2, where he writes, "Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God." When we set our hearts on God's kingdom, we're reminded of our true citizenship and our ultimate goal.
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." As fathers, we often face uncertain circumstances and unknown futures. But when we anchor our faith in God's sovereignty, we're given the strength to persevere.
In Luke 10:41, Jesus teaches that "one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Mary's choice to sit at Jesus' feet, rather than helping her sister Martha with the preparations, is a powerful example of prioritizing what's truly important.
Main Teaching
As fathers, we're often tempted to focus on earthly treasures and accomplishments. But God calls us to seek His kingdom and His righteousness above all else. This doesn't mean we're neglecting our responsibilities or abandoning our families. Rather, it means we're anchoring our priorities in God's sovereignty and wisdom.
When we set our hearts on God's kingdom, we're reminded that our ultimate goal is not to achieve success or prosperity, but to glorify God. This doesn't mean we won't experience success or prosperity; it means that our success and prosperity will be a byproduct of our faithful obedience.
So how can we cultivate this inner strength? By seeking God's kingdom and His righteousness, we're given the strength to persevere through difficult times and to trust in His sovereignty. We're reminded that our worth and identity are not tied to our accomplishments or achievements, but to our relationship with God.
