Faithful Focus: Cultivating a Heart Fixed on Jesus
Scripture Reading and Analysis
In Matthew 14:22-33, we find Jesus walking on the water during a storm. Peter, one of his disciples, asks Jesus to call him out onto the water. Jesus does so, and Peter begins to walk on the water. However, as he takes his eyes off Jesus, he starts to sink. Jesus immediately reaches out and saves Peter, saying, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" (Matthew 14:31).
In Hebrews 12:2-3, we're reminded that "fixing our eyes on Jesus" is essential for our spiritual growth. It's easy to get distracted by the world around us, but as believers, we must keep our focus on the One who is our Rock and our Salvation.
In Colossians 3:2, Paul writes that we should "set our minds on things above, not on earthly things." And in 1 Corinthians 13:12, we're told that we can't see everything clearly, but with faith, we can trust that God is working everything out for our good.
Main Teaching
When we're faced with challenges, it's easy to lose sight of what's truly important. We might start to focus on our own strength and abilities rather than God's. But as believers, we know that our strength comes from Him.
In Matthew 14:22-33, Peter's lack of faith causes him to sink. But Jesus doesn't scold him for his lack of faith; instead, He reaches out and saves him. This shows us that even when we fail, God is always there to help us.
As fathers, we need to model this kind of faith for our children. We need to show them that even when we face challenges, our eyes are fixed on Jesus. We need to trust that He is our Rock and our Salvation.
