Cultivating Calm: Biblical Principles for a Peaceful Life
Scripture Reading and Analysis
Matthew 6:25-27
And Jesus said to them, "Can any of you add a single hour to your life span by worrying? The pagans take precedence over that by their worries. Come, then, do not worry and say, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'How will we be clothed?' All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (NABRE)
Jesus teaches that worry is a futile effort, as it doesn't add any value to our lives. Instead, He invites us to seek God's kingdom and righteousness first. When we prioritize our relationship with God, He takes care of our needs.
Psalm 131:2
But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content." (NABRE)
David's psalm teaches us that true calm comes from being content and trusting in God's provision. Like a weaned child who has moved beyond dependence on its mother's milk, we can learn to trust God's care and find peace in His presence.
Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you; because he trusts in you." (NABRE)
Isaiah reminds us that true peace comes from having our minds stayed on God and trusting in His goodness. When we focus on Him, we can experience perfect peace.
Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." (NABRE)
Paul exhorts us to set our minds on things above, where Christ is seated. When we focus on Him and His kingdom, we can experience inner peace and calm.
